How long are the sessions?

Individual speech-language therapy sessions can be 30-45 minutes in length depending on the child’s skills and comfort level.  Five to ten minutes at the end of each session, will be used to share with the parent(s) or caregivers the primary focus of the session, the activity or activities used, and offer a suggestion for the family to work on from that session to the next.

When are speech-language therapy sessions available?

During the school year, sessions are available after school hours Monday through Friday from 4 pm to 7 pm and Saturdays from 8 am to 5 pm.  During the summer months, Kindred Connections offers sessions Monday through Friday from

8 am to 7 pm.

How are therapy costs covered through Kindred Connections?

Therapy sessions can be covered out of pocket or through insurance.  Kindred Connections cannot guarantee insurance coverage, but will communicate with insurance companies to determine coverage and authorization for services.  If there is any issue with determining coverage, it will then be the client’s parents or caregivers responsibility to determine what their plan will cover or not cover.

What should I provide prior to the initial visit?

Any previous speech language therapy records, which may include an evaluation report, Individual Education Program (IEP), progress reports, etc.  If you don’t have any documents, that’s okay too!  Be ready to talk about your observations, concerns, and ideas on what you would like your child to work on while attending Kindred Connections.  Have your insurance card ready as well.

What ages can attend Kindred Connections?

Individual speech-language therapy sessions are open to children ages one to 21 years of age and show a need based on formal and or informal evaluation through Kindred Connections or an outside evaluation.

Does my child have to have a full evaluation to start therapy at Kindred Connections?

Absolutely not!  If your child has a current Individualized Education Program (IEP) in place and you are in agreement with the communication goals stated in the IEP, those goals can continue to be addressed during the summer to help your child maintain the progress he or she has achieved during the school year.  No evaluation is necessary.

If the IEP is not current, at minimum, an informal evaluation will be necessary to determine appropriate goals.  If no diagnosis has been made regarding communication, a formal evaluation will be required prior to starting speech-language therapy sessions to determine a need and establish an appropriate evidence based therapy plan.
